
Br. James Petrait, OSFS, biology teacher at St. Joseph High School on St. Croix, took his new students on short field trips around the school's soccer field to search for living and non-living things on January 11. St. Mary School on St. Croix will hold its annual fundraising dinner and auction at the Divi Carina Bay Ballroom on Saturday, February 2. Cocktails will be served at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 7:00 p.m. The theme this year is "Happy Birthday, Baby" as the school celebrates its 110th year.
Donations of furniture, jewelry, art, small appliances, home decorations and more are requested for the silent and live bidding. Trips to Sun Valley, New York, Mackinac Island and more also will be among the items auctioned.
Dinner tickets are available for $75 at Holy Cross Church and St. Mary School.
This year's monies will go toward scholarships and renovations to the school hall. Students would use the venue for drama presentations, music programs, film activities, science fairs, student displays and guest speakers.
Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas will host its first annual Red Ball at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Hotel on Friday, March 28, at 7:30 p.m. Past principals Sr. Ann Carmela Olive, SC, Sr. Maria Magdalena Studer, SC, Sr. Barbara Kowalik, SSC, Sr. Marguerite Brenan, SC, Sr. Margaret Nully, SC, Br. Laurence Lavalle, FMS, Dr. Harold Hazlip, Diana Parker, David Corey, Sara Connell and Gwendoyn Blake will be honored. All who attend the ball are asked to wear something red.
Tickets are available at the school for a $100 donation. Contact the school to place an advertisement or to be posted on the patron list in the commemorative booklet.
Over 8,000 Catholic Schools in the United States, including the four Catholic schools in the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands, will conclude Catholic Schools Week 2008 on Saturday, February 2. This year's theme is "Catholic Schools Light the Way."
During Catholic Schools Week, The students of St. Joseph High School will raise funds through a Walk-a-thon on February 1 and have round-table discussions dcuring the week. They will also hav e guest speakers including some of the alumni from the Class of 1965.
Activities at St. Mary School on St. Croix included the Big Read program, Student Leadership Day, Wacky Hair, Shoe, Sock and Tie Days, and Donuts for Dad and Muffins for Mom Days.
St. Patrick School on St. Croix started Catholic Schools Week with a student-led Mass at St. Patrick Church on January 27. Other events include a Career and Prayer service, an essay contest, Crazy Hat Day, Volunteers/Grandparents/Teacher Appreciation Day, Twin Day, a field day and a concert by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Nights.
Students at Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas participated in a Catholic Quiz Bowl, Teachers Switch Day, a poster contest, a March-athon from Emancipation Gardens to the school, Teachers and Administrators Appreciation Day, a multicultural fair and a talent show.
