Michael Akin
Michael Akin met in Washington, D.C. together with other leaders of Catholic Charities USA on April 26 -28. They were joined April 26 by two people who have received aid from their local Catholic Charities affiliates to ask Congress to cut poverty in half by the year 2020. Michael Akin met with Monique Clendenin in Delegate Christensen's Washington's office to discuss the CCUSA Poverty initiative which has received a great deal of attention nationally. The President of Catholic Charities USA, Fr. Larry Snyder, told the group that other organizations are asking to be part of the initiative. They asked Congress to cut poverty in half by the year 2020. The afternoon session on April 28th dealt with Asset Creation in Low Income Communities and was very interesting and something that Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands would like to promote in some form.
