BISHOP TO STUDY SPANISH

Bishop George Murry, SJ, will participate in an intensive Spanish course at the Our Lady of Guadalupe seminary in Mexico City for four weeks in July. The course is designed especially for clergy, and will emphasize vocabulary and grammar as they are used in liturgical and pastoral contexts.

NEW DEACON ASSIGNED

Bishop George Murry, SJ, has assigned Rev. Mr.

Louis Soto to St. Patrick Church on St. Croix. Deacon Soto was ordained at the parish on June 11.

BISHOP TO TEACH HISTORY COURSE AT HIGH SCHOOL

Bishop George Murry, SJ, will be teaching Advanced Placement History to juniors at Ss. Peter and Paul High School on St. Thomas beginning in the fall. It will be a survey course on American History from pre­ Colonial times to the present. Advanced placement courses allow high school juniors and seniors to receive college credit before entering college.

Very Rev. Neil Scantlebury, Rector of Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral, also joins the staff teaching Mathematics.

HOLY SPIRIT BLESSINGS ON PENTECOST

Bishop George Murry, SJ. offered blessings for those celebrating birthdays or anniversaries in June at the conclusion of the Pentecost Sunday Mass at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on St. Thomas on June 4.

FAY MOON 1938-2006

Over 200 people attended the funeral Mass of Fay Moon at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on June 5. Ms. Moon served many years as the organist at the Cathedral. Pictured above, Bishop George Murry, SJ, and many clergy joined in the final commendation.

MISSIONARY OF CHARITY CELEBRATES JUBILEE

Bishop George Murry, SJ, celebrated Mass at the Missionaries of Charity Convent on St. Croix on May 29 to bless Sr. Mary Junila, MC, on her twenty-fifth anniversary in religious life. She is pictured above wearing a jubilee crown.

In related news, Sr. Mary Celia, MC, (standing in the forefront) left for Calcutta, India, on June 6 to begin a renewal course. After the course is completed, she will be reassigned.
