FOUR STUDENTS WIN ESSAY CONTESTS

Four students from Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas won top prizes in the Virgin Islands Commission on the Status of Women essay contest. Sixth grader Joshua Quetel took first place in the elementary competition with an essay that addressed the assignment to "write about a Virgin Islands woman who had an impact on your life." Seventh graders Hannah Carty, Yasmin Heyliger and Nicole Joseph took first, second and third place in the junior high competition in which they were asked to "write about an important factor influencing Virgin Islands women today." The winners were announced June 8.

Jeanne Garcia of the St. Croix chapter of Magnificat, an international ministry to Catholic women, offered her testimony of conversion to over 100 women and a few men when the St. Thomas/St. John chapter held a luncheon at the Columban Hall of Holy Family Church on St. Thomas on May 28.
