 SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM

The five students who participated in the Science Symposium are pictured above

Five St. Joseph High School students competed in the school's eighth annual Science Symposium. The students completed a science project and then videotaped a presentation of it. These videos then were evaluated by five judges at the University of the Virgin Islands. Judging was based on the content of the students' projects and the quality of their presentations. The participants received copies of the DVD presentations, certificates and awards.

First Place: Acid Rain and Seed Germination by Tansy Garvey, 11th Grade. Prizes: 6.0 Megapixel Digital Camera, 36 Hour Voice Recorder, 1 gigabyte SD Flash Drive, Gold Medal.

Second Place: Global Warming by Sydney Paul, 11th Grade. Prizes: Portable DVD Player; Emergency AM/FM/SW Radio; Silver Medal.

Third Place: How to Make Soap, Body Glitter and Aromatherapy Spray by Kenisha Brewley, 9th Grade. Prizes: Portable DVD Player, Silver Medal.

Fourth Place: Ways that Solar Energy Is Used by Brittany Williams, 10th Grade. Prizes: Digital Photo Frame with MP3 Player, Bronze Medal.

Fifth Place: Virtual Labs by Sangina Diaz, 11th Grade. Prizes: DVD Player, MP3 Speaker System, Bronze Medal.

Br. James Petrait, OSFS, science teacher, is the founder and director of the symposium. Lorraine Quinton served as videographer, with 11th grader Jordan Paul as Assistant Videographer. Fr. Louis Kemayou, Administrator of St. Joseph Church, edited the DVDs.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION AWARDS

The Religious Education staff at Holy Family Church on St. Thomas gave awards to children in catechism classes on June 16.
