MASS FOR CATHOLIC POLITICIANS

Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on St. Thomas will host a "Mass for Catholic Politicians" on Sunday, August 13, at 10:30 a.m. All Catholic politicians, aspirants to office, staff and volunteers are invited to attend. In his homily, Bishop George Murry, SJ, will speak of the importance of Catholic politicians and staff members remaining faithful to religious values while working in government.

INDUCTION INTO THE HALL OF FAME

Bishop George Murry, SJ, was named to the Archbishop Carroll High School's Hall of Fame in Washington, DC, during an induction ceremony at the Kennedy Center on June 12. Bishop Murry served as president of the school from 1989 to 1994.

John Butler, who succeeded Bishop Murry in 1994 and remained president until June 2006, and former principal James Mumford were also inducted into the Hall of Fame.

BISHOP'S APPEAL 2006 REACHES GOAL

The 2006 Bishop's Appeal exceeded the $425,000 goal set last January.

As of July 14, this year's campaign has raised $447,593, breaking last year's record of $374,000. To date there have been 1,232 gifts, exceeding last year's record total of 1,093.

Each year, the Bishop's Appeal raises necessary funds to support Catholic Charities of the Virgin Islands and the four Catholic Schools in the diocese.

As of July 14, Bishop George Murry, SJ, raised $123,889 on his own.
