
STUDENT TRAINS FOR LEADERSHIP
Ariel Foy, an 11th grader at Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas, was among the 400 students invited to attend one of LeadAmerica's Congressional Student Leadership Conferences at Gallaudet University in Washington DC on June 15-20. She was the sole representative from the Virgin Islands.
The summer session, Leadership University, was an intensive career-focused conference for youth. Her participation earned her a Certificate of Achievement.

HIGH SCHOOL ART EXHIBITION AND SALE

St. Joseph High School displayed the work of its art students with an exhibition and sale after the school's awards ceremony on June 5. Those in attendance were able to view and buy pottery, rattan work, pastel, tempera, and pencil drawings made by the students in Judy Bain's classes. The proceeds from the sale will be used to help develop the school's art department.

TWO STUDENTS PLACE FIRST IN SCIENCE SYMPOSIUM
Sangina Diaz and Camille Paul tied for first place in the seventh annual Science Symposium at St. Joseph High School on St. Croix.
Each year, all students at the school are invited to complete a science project and then make a presentation of it on videotape. The project of Camille Paul, a 12th grade entry (she is now a graduate), was titled, "The Effect of Food Preservation on Bread." The project of Sangina Diaz, a 10th grade entry, was titled "The Germination of Radish Seeds through Different Liquids."
Br. James Petrait, aSFS, director of the symposium, awarded each of the students a MP3 Flash Player, science book, certificate, and gold medal at the student award ceremonies.
