PARISH INSTALLS NEW STAINED GLASS  

 New stained glass has been installed at St. Joseph Church on St. Croix. The above image of St. Joseph the Worker was installed in the choir loft. Additional windows were installed on the main doors of the church. All the windows were custom made for the parish.

 

FUNERAL FOR WIFE OF FORMER SENATOR

Rev. Dr. George Franklin incensed the casket of Faye Liburd, wife of former senator Almando "Rocky" Liburd, during the final commendation at her funeral at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on St. Thomas on July 20.

 

PARISH PICNIC IS FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY  

Pictured above, youth were among those who enjoyed the annual family picnic for the parishioners of St. Patrick Church on St. Croix. This year's picnic was held behind St. Gerard Hall on June 10.

POPE MAY VISIT U.N.

The Vatican has announced that in 2008, apart from visiting Sydney, Australia, in July for World Youth Day, it is highly probable that Pope Benedict XVI will visit the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The Pope may also make a pilgrimage to Lourdes for the 150th anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary there.

 

BISHOPS ON IMMIGRATION

The U.S. bishops have decried the failure of immigration reform and its implicit exploitation of millions of people.

Bishop Gerald Barnes, chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Migration, called on Congress "not to abandon this issue and to return to it as soon as possible."
