CATHOLIC BIBLE STUDIES

Catholic Bible studies will be offered at the Light of Christ Retreat Center on St. Croix on Thursday mornings and evenings beginning September 7. Sr. Germaine Convery, WIF, will lead a discussion at 10:00 a.m. and Fr. Simon Peter Opira will lead at 7:00 p.m. The sessions are expected to last ninety minutes. Participants are asked to bring a Bible.

DINNER TO HONOR BISHOP THOMAS

The Prayers, Hymns and Praise Steel Orchestra of Holy Family Church on St. Thomas will present "An Evening of Elegance" honoring Bishop Elliott Thomas and all others who tum 80 years old in 2006. The dinner will be held at the Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort on Sunday, October 15, at 6:00 p.m. The orchestra will perform. Tickets are available from members of the orchestra for $60.

SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

The St. Joseph Workers awarded certificates and a scholarship donation to three parishioners of Holy Family Church on St. Thomas after Sunday Mass on July 9. Odrique Badeau, Jr., Khinean Casey and Jazmine Grell were to use the gift toward their college tuition.

TWO SEMINARIANS IN FORMATION

The two seminarians for the Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands resumed studies and formation in late August. Anthony Abraham resumed studies at St. John Vianney and the V ganda Martyrs Regional Seminary in Tunapuna, Trinidad. Ernesto Rodriguez joined the student body at St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pennsylvania. On their summer assignments on St. Thomas, Mr. Abraham served at Holy Family Church and Mr. Rodriguez served at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral.

SCHOOL OPENS NEW LIBRARY

The new library was completed at Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas in time for the school year. A new science laboratory is presently being constructed.

Fr. Charles Crespo, Pastor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church on St. John, will be one of six Virgin Islanders profiled in the 2007 edition of Discover. Discover is a hardcover book that is placed in every hotel room in the Virgin Islands.

FRENCH MASSES RESUME ON ST. THOMAS

Msgr. Jerome Feudjio and Very Rev. Neil Scantlebury celebrated Mass in French at St. Anne Chapel on St. Thomas on August 27. Following the Mass, the St. Anne Youth Group hosted a small reception at the Parish Hall. The next French Mass at the chapel will be on Sunday, October 1, at 5:00 p.m.
