DEACONS ON RETREAT  

Fr. John Mark, Diocesan Director of the Diaconate, led a retreat for deacons, deacon aspirants and their wives at Light of Christ Retreat Center on St. Croix on July 20-22.  SEMINARIANS AT PRAYER

 Fr. John Mark led a day of recollection for the two diocesan seminarians, Anthony Abraham and Ernesto Rodriguez, in the chapel at the Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral rectory on St. Thomas on August 2.

The Diocese of St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands has two job openings on St. Thomas. The Catholic Chancery seeks an accountant/bookkeeper and Catholic Charities seeks an Assistant to the Executive Director to do grant writing and management. DISASTER RELIEF

The Hispanic Ministry at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on St. Thomas will celebrate a memorial Mass in Spanish for earthquake victims in Peru on Sunday, September 9, at 12:30 p.m. A second collection will support the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) workers assisting survivors of Peru's worst earthquake in 30 years.

Over 510 people died and over 1,500 others were injured by the 8.0-magnitude earthquake on August 15. Thus far, 85,000 people are reportedly affected and 17,000 homes destroyed. CRS is delivering water, blankets and hygiene kits to the victims.

 

CARIBBEAN CRUISE

The St. Joseph Workers of Holy Family Church on St. Thomas will host a seven-day cruise aboard Princess Cruise's Crown Princess beginning November 24. The ship will sail from Puerto Rico to St. Thomas, St. Kitts, Grenada, Bonaire and Aruba. For cabin prices, call Orville Rousse, President of the St. Joseph Workers, at (340) 775-2890.

 

GOSPEL CHOIR CONCERTS

Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas will host a concert featuring the Voices of Praise Choir from St. Alphonsus "Rock" Church in St. Louis, Missouri, at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on November 2 at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $25..

Ss. Peter and Paul School also will host a concert featuring the St. Monica Church Choir from Kansas City at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on January 23, 2007. The concert will be part of the events celebrating Catholic School Week.

 

BE A TOURIST FOR A DAY

Local residents can experience St. Thomas like a visitor when the Catholic Daughters of America Court 2049 hosts its second annual Tourist for a Day on Saturday, September 1, leaving via safari bus from Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral at 9:00 am. Tickets are $35. Lunch will be served at Magen's Bay.
