Fr. Pat Lynch, CSsR, Pastor of Holy Cross Church on St. Croix, has appointed Sr. Maria Felisa Garing, OP, as Pastoral Assistant. Sr. Garing will help with the parish catechetical programs, update the parish website, input census and sacramental information and assist in Liturgy Committee projects.
Sr. Garing's arrival has enlarged the local community of the Dominican Daughters of the Immaculate Mother. Prior to her move to the Virgin Islands, Sr. Garing taught for 15 years at Immaculate Conception Elementary School in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania, and was the catechetical coordinator at St. Monica Church in Ilocas Norte, Philippines. While in Rome, Sr. Garing was the personal assistant of Jose Cardinal Sanchez, the Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for the Clergy, from 1998 to 2001.
Fr. Andres Eiroa of Opus Dei in Puerto Rico will lead a women's retreat at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church on St. Thomas on Saturday, September 8, at 9:30 a.m.
Magnificat, an international ministry to Catholic women, will celebrate the Feast of the Birth of the Blessed Virgin Mary with a breakfast in the Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral Hospitality Lounge on St. Thomas on Saturday, September 8, at 8:00 a.m. Catherine Celaire-Morton of Holy Family Church will be the guest speaker. Admission is free, but a free-will offering will be collected.
Magnificat also has rescheduled its "Empowerment of the Holy Spirit" seminar at Light of Christ Retreat Center on St. Croix to October 19-21. Guest speakers will teach how Catholic women can find a deeper awareness of the Holy Spirit, what it means to live a life in the Holy Spirit and how to maintain that life.
