
Fr. Simon Peter Opira (above left) and Msgr. Jerome Feudjio (above right) were among the speakers when Holy Family Church on St. Thomas celebrated the third anniversary of the reopening of Columban Hall with a luncheon at the newly air-conditioned hall on October 7. As pastor, Fr. Opira started and Msgr. Feudjio, present pastor, is completing the construction of the hall.
Ss. Peter and Paul School on St. Thomas will host a concert featuring the Voices of Praise Choir from St. Alphonsus "Rock" Church in St. Louis, Missouri, and the Youth Choir from Holy Family Church on St. Thomas at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on Friday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m. Attendees are invited to meet the visiting vocalists and enjoy the school's Angels of Steel Band over hors d'ouevres in the school courtyard beginning at 6:00 p.m. Tickets are available for a donation of $25 in advance, $30 at the gate.
Dominica will celebrate twenty-nine years of independence on November 3. Catholics in the Virgin Islands will remember the occasion with two festive French Creole Masses. Bishop Gabriel Malzaire of the Diocese of Roseau, Dominica, will celebrate Mass at Holy Family Church on St. Thomas, and Fr. Cornelius Phillip, FMI, of St. Andrew Church in Vieille Case, Dominica, will celebrate Mass at St. Joseph Church on St. Croix. Both Masses will be celebrated on Sunday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m.
The St. Joseph Workers of Holy Family Church on St. Thomas will host a seven-day cruise aboard Princess Cruise's Crown Princess beginning November 24. The Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral Choir presents "A Harvest Gala: A Tribute to Past and Present Organists of Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral" at Columban Hall on Sunday, November 4, at 4:30 p.m. The program will include performances by the University of the Virgin Islands Woodwind Trio, the New Hernhut Men's Chorale as well as soloists and organists. Tickets are available for a $40 donation at the Cathedral office.
The Men's Fellowship of St. Patrick Church on St. Croix will present its annual Thanksgiving Quadrille at St. Gerard Hall on Friday, November 23, at 10:00 p.m. Curtis William is the caller, and music will be provided by Stanley and the Ten Sleepless Knights. The winners of the Grand Thanksgiving Raffle Drawing will be announced at the Quadrille. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
Two parishes will celebrate the Feast of Nuestra Señora de la Divina Providencia (Our Lady of Divine Providence), patroness of Puerto Rico, with Spanish Masses.

Peter and Paul Cathedral on St. Thomas will celebrate on Sunday, November 18, at 12:30 p.m. St. Joseph Church on St. Croix will celebrate on Monday, November 19, at 7:00 p.m. Both Masses will be followed by a reception with traditional Puerto Rican dishes in their respective Hospitality Lounges.
Our Lady of Divine Providence, one of many titles of Mary, the mother of Jesus, has been considered the patroness of Puerto Rico for approximately 150 years.
