DOMESTIC POLICY COMMITTEE

The American bishops have elected Bishop George V. Murry, SJ, as chair of the Domestic Policy Committee of their Office for Social Development and World Peace. Bishop Murry has served on the committee since 2003 and assumes the leadership in November 2007.

The Domestic Policy

Committee develops the bishops' positions on social issues, such as immigration reform, health care, housing, criminal justice, environment, and labor. The next meeting of the committee is scheduled for December 13-14 in Washington, D.C.

SUDAN

       Three    African-  American

bishops will visit Sudan from December 27 to January 3. On behalf of Catholic Relief Services, Bishop George Murry, SJ, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Perry of Chicago and Bishop John Ricard of Pensacola-Tallahassee hope to encourage humanitarian efforts among American Catholics in response to the plight of thousands of Sudanese people who suffer daily from drought, armed militia attacks and waning international support. Catholic Relief Services provides food, clothing, medicine and shelter in Sudan as well as in 99 other underdeveloped countries throughout the world.

SCHOOL ALL SAINTS DAY MASS

Bishop George Murry, SJ, celebrated an All Saints Day Mass for students of Ss. Peter and Paul School at Ss. Peter and Paul Cathedral on St. Thomas on November 1.
